Competition Rules: Open Eurasia 2019

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

The organizers of the international festival and competition «Open Eurasian Literature Festival and Book Forum» (OEBF) are happy to announce that applications are now open for the 8th Literary Contest for Open Eurasia 2019.

The competition is open to writers, poets, translators, illustrators and directors.

Only one submission is allowed in each of the following categories:

1. Literary work

1.1. Prose,

1.2. Short prose ,

1.3. Poetry;

2. Literary translation;

3. Illustration;

4. Video.

5. Opinion journalism

Writers, poets, translators, illustrators, journalists and directors from all over the world are invited to participate in the competition with a total prize fund of USD $31,000.*

Works containing pornography, calls for extremism, propaganda of violence and cruelty, national intolerance, drugs and other inappropriate texts are not allowed in the competition. Participants can also be disqualified if they submit fraudulent work.

After publishing the work, the organizers reserve the right to remove the participant’s work from the official website of the contest.

The organizers are not obliged to remove any work requested by the participant.

If the application conditions are met the work will appear on the official website of the contest until September 25, 2019.

Exclusive copyright for all submitted works belong to the authors.

In accordance with the legislation of the United Kingdom the participant who submitted the work, the author of which is not, bears full responsibility to the holder of exclusive copyrights to the text.

Application conditions:

Literary work

The category «Literary work» is divided into 3 subcategories:

• Prose (story, novel);

• Small Prose (up to 7 thousand words);

• Poetry.

Each subcategory receives 1 (one) work not previously published in English.

Works are accepted in Russian, English, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Tajik, Belarusian and Azerbaijani languages. Preference will be given to works in English. Contest works can be performed in literary genres of poetry, short story, novel or essay on a free topic.

After filling in the registration form, you must send to the address: konkurs2019@ocamagazine.com with the name of category and Your name in the Subject line, the following documents: synopsis and / or excerpt from the work (from 1000 to 1500 words) for publication on the site, the full text of the work, the author’s in good quality (size not less than 1 MB). Only the author should be shown in the photo.

The deadline for application is 15 September 2019.

Dear contestants, please be careful! If the contestant does not provide an excerpt or provides a very short synopsis, the Organizing Committee may disqualify the participant or independently select and publish any excerpt from his/her work. If the excerpt is more than 1500 words, it is reduced to 1500 words. Replacement and correction are not allowed.

Opinion journalism (Publicism)

One (1) work is accepted which has not been previously published with the size of 500 to 4000 words.

Works are accepted in Russian and English languages.

Theme: “Greater Eurasia: successes and problems of regional cooperation”.

Only members of Eurasian Creative Guild can participate in the competition. For non-members,  you need to register and get a FREE membership for the period up to December 1, 2019. To become a member of the Guild, register at the link:

We also note that participants who have not previously been members of the Eurasian Creative Guild (London) can receive free membership.

After completion of the registration form, you must send to the address: konkurs2019@ocamagazine.com marked with the name of the category and your name in the Subject line the following documents:

synopsis and/or an excerpt from the work (from 500 to 1000 words) for publication on the website, the full text, a photo of the author in good quality (no less than 1 MB in size). At the photo should be only the author.

The deadline for application is 15 September 2019.

Literary translation

One work from each applicant, not previously published in English, is accepted for the competition.

A translation of an excerpt of one of the books published by Hertfordshire Press publishing house or a translation of a piece of work of one of the OEBF contestants of previous years and a translation of an excerpt of works submitted to the contest this year may be submitted to the contest. The list of works of previous years and links to them can be found on the competition sites: from 2012 to 2016 on the site www.rus.ocabookforum.com, 2017 www.17.ocabookforum.com

After filling in the registration form, you must send to the address: konkurs2019@ocamagazine.com with the name of category and Your name in the Subject line, the following documents: an excerpt from the work (from 1000 to 1500 words) for publication on the site, the full text of the translated work, the author’s photo in good quality (size not less than 1 MB). Only the author should be shown in the photo. Replacement and correction of the published passage are not allowed.

Please, when filling in the registration form of the OEBF contest participant, do not forget to specify the name of the participant, the year of his participation in the OEBF contest and the name of the work for which Your translation was made, or the name of the book published by Hertfordshire Press, for which you made the translation.

The deadline for applications is 15 September 2019.

If the application conditions are met, the work will appear on the official website of the competition, so that readers can vote for it. However, the reader’s vote is not decisive in the selection of finalists.

Illustration

The competition is accepted from one to 5 works from each applicant.

In this category can be claimed illustration/illustrations to one of the books published by the publishing house Hertfordshire Press or illustration /illustrations to one of the works of the participants of the OEBF competitions of previous years, as well as submitted to the competition this year. The list of works of previous years and links to them can be found on the website of the competition from 2012 to 2016 www.rus.ocabookforum.com  , 2017 www.17.ocabookforum.com, and Facebook page.

After filling in the registration form, you must send to the address: konkurs2019@ocamagazine.com with the name of the category and Your name in the Subject line, the following documents: Jpg illustration or illustrations, 300 dpi resolution, good quality photo of the author (at least 1 MB in size). Only the author should be shown in the photo.

Please, when filling out the OEBF contest registration form, do not forget to indicate the participant’s name, year of participation in the OEBF contest and the name of the work to which Your illustration was made, or the name of the book published by Hertfordshire Press, to which You have made an illustration.

The deadline for applications is 15 September 2019.

If the application conditions are met, the work will appear on the official website of the competition, so that readers can vote for it. However, the reader’s vote is not decisive in the selection of finalists.

Video

The competition accepts one work from each applicant, based on a literary work in one of three categories:

1) Works published by Hertfordshi Press.

2) The Works participating in the contests OЕBF 2012, 2013, 2014,2015, 2016, 2018 (from 2012 to 2016 on the website www.rus.ocabookforum.com   2017 on www.17.ocabookforum.com )

3) Works submitted for participation in OEBF 2018.

Works are accepted in any genre: video art, fiction, documentary and experimental films in Russian, English, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Tajik, Turkmen and Azerbaijani languages. If the film contains a speech in English, subtitles in Russian are required, if in other languages mentioned above – in English. The length of the video should preferably not be more than 40 minutes and not less than 5.

After filling in the registration form, you must send to address:  konkurs2019@ocamagazine.com with the name of the category and Your name marked in the Subject line, the Director’s photo is in good quality (at least 1 MB in size). Only the Director should be shown in the photo.

Please, when filling out the registration form of the OEBF contest participant, do not forget to provide a working link to the video posted on the Internet (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.), or attach a media (CD or memory card) with a compressed copy in the format .avi or .mp4.

The deadline for application is 15 September 2019.

If the conditions of application are met, a link to the video will appear on the official website of the competition, so that readers can vote for it. However, the reader’s vote is not decisive in the selection of finalists.
